Keyboard shortcuts
Every keyboard shortcut in Idea Bucket, in the app on the web and Mac, plus the Mac app's global shortcuts and quick search keys.
On this page
Idea Bucket works well from the keyboard. Most shortcuts work in the web app and the Mac app alike; the global shortcuts that work from any app are Mac-only.
In the app
Moving around
| Keys | What it does |
|---|---|
| ⌥ 1 | Go to Drop |
| ⌥ 2 | Go to Find |
| ⌥ 3 | Go to Explore |
| ⌥ 4 | Go to Profile |
| / | Jump to Find (when you're not typing in a field) |
The tab shortcuts work even while you're typing. They use the physical number keys, so they work on any keyboard layout. In the Mac app (and an installed app on other computers) ⌘ 1–4 works too; in a browser tab, use ⌥, because the browser keeps ⌘ + number for switching its own tabs.
Dropping ideas
| Keys | What it does |
|---|---|
| Enter | Drop the idea |
| ⇧ Enter | New line |
Tag suggestions
When you type # in a composer or search field, a list of your tags appears. The top suggestion is highlighted from the start.
| Keys | What it does |
|---|---|
| ↑ / ↓ | Move through the suggestions |
| Tab or Enter | Use the highlighted tag |
| Esc | Close the list |
Once the list is closed, Enter drops the idea as usual.
Ideas and notes
| Keys | What it does |
|---|---|
| Enter or Space | Open or close the focused idea card |
| ⌘ Enter | Save your edit to an idea |
| Esc | Cancel editing an idea |
| ⌘ Enter | Add a note, or save a note you're editing |
| Esc | Discard a new note, or cancel editing a note |
Explore
These work on the card under your pointer or the one with keyboard focus, when you're not typing in a field.
| Key | What it does |
|---|---|
| j | Next card |
| k | Previous card |
| s | Spark: bring this back more |
| n | Not now: hide for 30 days |
| d | Done: archive it |
| r | Reply with a note |
See Explore for what each reaction does.

The Mac app page explains each one, how to change them, and what to do if a shortcut does nothing.

Web and Mac differences
- The global shortcuts, the quick box and quick search are only in the Mac app. On the web and iPhone, Settings just says "Shortcuts are available in the Mac app."
- Everything under In the app works the same on the web and in the Mac app's main window.
- On Windows and Linux the in-app shortcuts use Alt and Ctrl: Alt 1–4 to switch tabs and Ctrl Enter to save an edit or note.
